Wiener Races!

 It’s off to the races!

Grab your wiener dog and have some fun! Barkfest’s Wiener Race Committee is preparing for the first annual Wiener Race as part of the Big Bend Barkfest celebration…a festival for dogs, by dogs, to be held at the Wakulla High School stadium in Wakulla County, Florida on March 6th, 2010. Races will be in 4 divisions:

Puppy: Ages up to 1 Year

Adult: Ages 1 to 6 Years

Senior: Ages 7 and up

Handicap: Any Age

You have plenty of time to prepare your racer, and if you have never been to a Wiener Race, we even give you some advice on training for this event. All profits from this festival and its competitions will help provide medical care for the countless homeless dogs in the Big Bend area, thereby increasing their chances of finding a forever home.  You and your beloved K-9 buddy can help us make this happen. So, what are you waiting for? Print and complete the Wiener Race Registration Form, mail it in with your fee, and get ready to have a blast. Should you have any questions, e-mail wienerraces@yahoo.com and we will be happy to get back to you.

To you wieners out there who have never been in a race before, no problem.  Prior to the big race on March 6, we will hold a practice race for those who are interested.  Please continue to check our web site for the time, date and place of the practice race.

There will be prizes for first, second and third place in the event for all classes.  In addition, all participants will receive a ribbon!

Barkfest is a rain or shine event, and remember: The most serious part of this festival is FUN!!!

Homeless Dog Memorial Parade

Calling all adopted dogs!! It is show time!!

Barkfest is an event to honor the less fortunate canines who have either lost their homes or never knew the pleasure of a home filled with love and affection.

It is to that end the Barkfest celebration will begin with a grand parade featuring formerly homeless dogs and their families. The dogs will parade around the field on leashes, while wearing (free to all participating dogs)  our special Barkfest Bandanas.

We are inviting and urging anyone and everyone who has a dog that they have ever adopted to please join us in this parade. The more dogs that we can show off the better!  This parade will show the world that adoption works and, at the same time, serve as a poignant reminder of the scope of the homeless dog problem.

Please plan to join us to open our event and honor yourself and the dog(s) that you love. The registration/rules form is downloadable from the link at the end of this posting.  Join us and be a part of history in the Big Bend!
