Dogs, It Is All About The Dogs!

2 09 2009

At Big Bend Barkfest we understand the depth of the relationship between mankind and his best friend, the dog.  We know that so many people share this deep love and respect for their dogs, and that this love may be one of the strongest common denominators uniting all people. Barkfest logo resized

It is in this theme that we will gather on the grounds of Wakulla High School on Saturday, March 6, 2010, to celebrate with our dogs.

We shall have a host of events, all featuring our canine “best friends” to show them off.

The event will open with a parade of dogs, all of whom were formerly homeless and are now in permanent homes.

We will have working dog demonstrations, agility demonstrations,  law enforcement canine units, search and rescue dogs, bloodhounds, and specially trained forensic dogs.

And for those who are proud to share a duck blind with their “best-friend” retriever there will be a chance for local guys and girls to demonstrate the skills of their hunting buddies.  Most people are amazed at how fast and dedicated these dogs are.

Frisbee MixSpeaking of athletic dogs, why not enter yourself and your Frisbee catching dog in our “best catch”  tournament.  It is all for fun and a trophy to recognize you and your winning dog’s talent. And, of course, all of our profits go directly toward improving the lives of those dogs who have no family to play with.

We will have food vendors,  pet supplies, and even some wonderful dogs in need of a good home. There will be all things “canine” gathered this day to enjoy the dogs. We invite you to join us and be a part of this day!

I am very proud and excited to be involved with this event. As a volunteer with Citizens for Humane Animal Treatment (CHAT), it is encouraging to see a homeless animal placed in a forever home. I just wish we could save them all. I hope this event will open hearts and minds for our four-legged friends.

We got off to a late start and missed a few events but we stayed for over 5 hours and enjoyed every minute of it. The weiner races were awesome and we took some great photos. We are both looking forward to many more Barkfest to enjoy in the coming years. Thanks for bringing this to Wakulla!!!
